In a single evening, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui brings together four special duets whose variations – couples, doubles, opposites or complementary – already constitute a full programme. Faun delivers a new dance version of Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, in which the animal quality and grace of the male and female energy is tamed into a unison of bodies. Pure questions the desire for purity which leads to nothingness: a dancer gradually disappears the more her partner delicately strokes her unstable body. Sin, which grew out of Babel, explores the intimacy of a couple whose body movements snake through the troubled wanderings of love, caught between Eros and Thanatos.
