Opening Thursday, August 14th, 2014 the Milburn Stone Theatre at Elkton Station presents the Maryland state premiere of DOGFIGHT, a new musical adaptation, based on the 1991 Warner Brothers Film. DOGFIGHT features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (A CHRISTMAS STORY, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, EDGES and NBC’S SMASH) and book by Peter Duchan (BREAKING UPWARDS.) The original off-Broadway production of DOGFIGHT, directed by Joe Mantello, earned two 2013 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Choreography, it was also nominated for five 2013 Outer Critics Circle Awards, three 2013 Drama Desk Awards and was the recipient of the 2011 Richard Rodgers Award during its development.
The MST @ ELKTON STATION production of DOGFIGHT is directed by Milburn Stone Theatre Artistic Director, S. Lee Lewis and features Musical Direction by Shane Jensen (MST’S CARRIE THE MUSICAL, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, NEXT TO NORMAL, JEKYLL & HYDE.)
DOGFIGHT stars Meghan Valle as Rose, who portrayed Carrie White in MST’s production of CARRIE THE MUSICAL and Shane Lowry as Birdlace who portrayed Matt in MST’s productions of THE FANTASTICKS and Moritz in MST’s SPRING AWAKWENING. DOGFIGHT also features Chandler Smith (MST’s 1776), Gannon Web (MST’S SHREK), Darby McLaughlin (MST’S NEXT TO NORMAL), Alicia Downs, Samantha Moscony, Shereen Ahmed (MST’S JEKYLL & HYDE), Matt Lucatamo, Codey Odechowski, Quinton Randolph-Bank and Brett Pearson (MST’S TWELFTH NIGHT).
About DOGFIGHT: It's November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion. Based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film, DOGFIGHT takes audiences on a romantic and heartbreaking theatrical journey that stays with you long after the performance.
DOGFIGHT runs for four days only, August 14th, 15th, 16th & 17th with Performances at 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for DOGFIGHT are $15 per person and $5 for Cecil College students with valid ID.
