For two nights only, the students are taking over! On January 10 and 11, 2014, the IStage Performance Ensemble will perform the hit classic musical Thoroughly Modern Milie, Jr. on The Lerner Family Theatre Stage-typically exclusive to the professional productions at Imagination Stage.

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr. runs in Imagination Stage's The Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre January 10 and 11, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301?280?1660.

Comprised of 33 students ranging from grades 6-12, the IStage Performance Ensemble is an audition-based program giving young artists the unique opportunity to bring a production from page to stage in a single semester. The ensemble rehearses two days per week for several hours at a time. The directorial staff has a vested interest in getting to know each student personally, and in turn holds high expectations for every performer. This opportunity allows them to apply their technical skills in a performance environment.

According to Imagination Stage Associate Artistic Director of Education Nikki Kaplan, "The IStage Performance Ensemble is an exciting opportunity to perform on a large stage, but more than that, it's a place for our performers to put their skills to the test. This is the only performance opportunity we offer that is not attached to a class, so the actors work in a total professional setting. They are expected to make independent character choices and rehearse outside of theatre-time."

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr. attracts both first time performers and those who have performed in multiple Imagination Stage student productions. This experience furthers the skill-set of both groups-giving younger students the opportunity to learn from the more experienced, and allowing those more experienced to sharpen their skills. The students hail from all across the DC metro area: 13 from Bethesda, four from Chevy Chase, four from Silver Spring, four from Potomac, two from Kensington, one from Poolesville, one from Rockville, one from Gaithersburg, two from McLean, VA, and one from Washington, D.C.

Directed by Nikki Kaplan, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr. is designed by an entire team of professional designers, including Debbie Jacobson (Music Director); Erica Molina (Choreographer); Celestine Ranney-Howes (Costume Designer); Zach Dalton (Lighting Designer); Jose Nunez and Kristin Johnson (Props Designers). It will be performed alongside the same set that A.J. Guban created for Imagination Stage's professional production Lyle the Crocodile, performing concurrently.

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr. This classic musical, set in the rip-roaring 1920s, tells the tale of a small-town girl who arrives in New York City determined to experience all that The Big Apple has to offer. Fully taken with the flapper lifestyle, Millie Dillmount discovers the good, the bad, and the fabulous of life!
