MCC Theater presented its annual Miscast gala last night, March 4, 2013 at The Hammerstein Ballroom (311 West 34th Street). Miscast 2013 honored Tony Award winner Judith Light (Other Desert Cities) for her illustrious screen and stage career (appearing on Broadway this year for her third straight season, this time in Richard Greenberg's upcoming The Assembled Parties), her work with MCC Theater (acclaimed performances in Colder Than Here and Wit), and her impassioned advocacy of several causes, including Arts in Education. The celebrated musical RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S Cinderella, originally written for television in 1957 by the legendary musical theatre duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, opened last night, March 3, at the Broadway Theatre. The Broadway Premiere of Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which comes on the heels of its sold-out run at Lincoln Center, will play a 17-week strictly limited Broadway engagement, set to begin performances on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Broadway's Golden Theatre. Directed by Nicholas Martin, the Broadway production will feature the entire original company, which includes Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Genevieve Angelson, Shalita Grant, and Billy Magnussen. Today, we're featuring Everett Quinton and Charles Ludlam circa 1985. Founded by Ludlam after his split from John Vaccaro's Playhouse of the Ridiculous, The Ridiculous Theatrical company transcended transvetite, drag, and gay theatre. Until his death at age 44 of pneumonia as a complication of AIDS, Charles Ludlum maintained complete creative control of the company acting as writer and director for nearly every production. He received six Obies before his death. Everett Quinton, his partner, attempted to keep the company going after Ludlam died in 1987.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's production of the world premiere of Jesse Eisenberg's The Revisionist, starring Eisenberg and Vanessa Redgrave, and directed by Kip Fagan, has been extended for three weeks though Sunday, April 21, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street. Ms. Parsons, who appeared last fall at La MaMa in Marco Calvani's play THINGS OF THIS WORLD directed by Neil LaBute, and Mr. Swords, who served as a member of the La MaMa Board for 25 years, wascelebrated at the event by personal and video tributes from playwrights Warren Leight and Mr. LaBute.
