Academy Award-winning Hollywood musical "Oklahoma!" returns to theaters nationwide for the first time in wide release in 60 years fully restored and with extended pre-show featurette featuring Okie native Kristin Chenoweth singing songs from the classic musical based on the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II stage production. The limited theatrical re-release, a partnership between BY Experience and Rodgers & Hammerstein, An Imagem Company, begins November 1st with more than 800 screenings nationwide. Original Broadway and off-Broadway cast member Arnie Burton just departed the two-time Tony Award winning hilarious hit comedy 39 STEPS following his 1,000th performance as Man #2/Clown #2 last night, September 28th. Having originated the role in the original Broadway production, Burton returned for the current engagement at the Union Square Theatre. Cameron Pow (The Lion King) will join the cast on Wednesday, September 30th, taking over for Burton.
The original Broadway cast of CRY-BABY took the stage at 54 Below for a reunion concert last night. Cry-Baby is based on the movie of the same name by John Waters and features a score by David Javerbaum (Act of God) and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), and a book by Mark O'Donnell (Hairspray) and Thomas Meehan (Annie). Although it only ran for three months, Cry-Baby was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the long-awaited official cast album will be released shortly.

Just last night, Tony Award-nominee Montego Glover and Alex Finke and Alfie Boe joined the company of Claude-Michel Schonberg & Alain Boublil's Les Miserables on Broadway. Glover succeeds Erika Henningsen as Fantine, while Finke (making her Broadway debut) replaces original cast member Samantha Hill. Boe takes over for Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo as Jean Valjean. Just yesterday, Tony Award-winner Billy Porter joined hundreds of hopefuls outside of the Hirschfeld Theatre in their most fabulous red footwear to celebrate the show's 1000th performance. To pay homage to the show's now-iconic red boots, the first 50 people in line at the Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th St) wearing red shoes received a free pair of tickets, plus the three most fabulous pairs of footwear, and winners (as chosen by Porter) got to join the cast backstage after the evening performance. Beginning last night, August 25, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland made her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' in the Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town, continuing in the role through the end of the musical's run on September 6.

Over the weekend, WWII Navy veterans Ray and Ellie Williams led the Times Square Alliance's "Kiss-In" to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. At the special event, hundreds of people re-enacted the legendary lip-lock between a U.S. sailor and nurse, captured forever on the cover of LIFE Magazine. The famous victory kiss occured on August 14, 1945 on Military Island, at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets. With eight Broadway shows to her name, Carly Hughes has quickly established herself as a recognizable talent, both onstage and off. Carly most recently starred on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Chicago and as The Leading Player in Pippin. A recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Awards, her other Broadway credits include Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Book of Mormon, Ghost, Ragtime, 25th Annual Putname County Spelling Bee and The Grinch. Carly is also featured in the upcoming movie adaptation of Ahrens & Flaherty's musical, Lucky Stiff.
Just last week, The New York Pops performed an inaugural concert at its new summer home, Forest Hills Stadium, with two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, joined by former Broadway co-stars Colin Donnell and Megan McGinnis. Among other numbers, she performed John Denver's 'Sunshine on my Shoulders,' Cole Porter's 'I Get a Kick Out of You,' and will reprise her touching duet 'Flight' with McGinnis. Donnell will perform a duet with Foster, in addition to 'On the Streets of Dublin,' from Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's A Man of No Importance. 39 Steps opened to rave reviews on April 13, 2015 at the Union Square Theatre (100 East 17th Street), featuring original Broadway cast member Arnie Burton reprising his role of Clown #2, Billy Carter as Clown #1, recent Juilliard grad Brittany Vicars as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret, and Broadway vet Robert Petkoff as the dashing hero Richard Hannay. The 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to Sam Willmott and the 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Sam Carner.
