The Hollywood Reporter writes that X-Men writer David Hayter will pen the film adaptation of the graphic novel THE SWORD by The Luna Brothers -- Jonathan and Joshua Luna. Production will begin in 2014 for Lakeshore Entertainment and Hopscotch Features.

"David has a proven track record of bringing the multifaceted, beloved characters of graphic novels to mainstream audiences," Lakeshore Entertainment's CEO Tom Rosenberg told THR.

THE SWORD centers on Dara Brighton who is a paraplegic whose family is brutally murdered, leaving her as the sole survivor. Brighton finds her father's sword, which gives her special powers and the ability to walk again. She uses this second chance to set out on a search for her family's killers.

Hayter has also written for X-Men, Lost in Oz, The Scorpion King, X2, Watchmen, Chasm and the upcoming pics Wolves and Caught Stealing.
