Deadline reports that Virginia Madsen has been tapped to lead the upcoming pilot HATFIELDS & MCCOYS for NBC.

Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer has signed on to helm the project, created by John Glenn. Charlize Theron, Dawn Parouse Olmstead, Beau Flynn and ABC Studios will produce the pilot.

In the drama, "a startling death re-ignites the feud between these two legendary families in present-day Pittsburgh, unleashing decades of resentment." Madsen will play the matriarch of the McCoys, a woman out for Revenge after her husband is murdered by the Hatfields.
