UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT star Tituss Burgess stopped by this morning's TODAY to talk about the upcoming second season of the show, but wound up issuing an on-air apology to his mom!

In the midst of sharing his reaction to the news that he'd been nominated for an Emmy Award for his supporting role on the hit Netflix comedy, which included crying, hanging up on his agent and being unable to reach his mom, the actor suddenly realized he had made a grave error. "Oh, my God!" he exclaimed. "I forgot to tell my mom I was going to be on the TODAY show!"

He went on to turn to the camera to right the wrong, sharing, "Mama, I hope I can still be your son when this is over with. I'm so sorry, but I'm on the TODAY show." Watch the clip below!

Burgess made his Broadway debut in the musical Good Vibrations as Eddie in 2005, and then appeared in Jersey Boys in 2005 as Hal Miller. He originated the role of Sebastian in the musical The Little Mermaid in 2007 and went on to the role of Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the revival of Guys and Dolls in 2009.

Recently, Burgess played the Witch in Into the Woods in a 2015 production with Miami'sDREAMCATCHER Theatre Company.
