Tom Hanks was the surprise guest on last night's THE COLBERT REPORT on Comedy Central. The actor stopped by to share some inexpensive Halloween costume ideas that would make for a 'spooktacular' holiday. Included in his suggestions was a 'Jim Lovell' costume, reminiscent of Hank's role in the blockbuster 'Apollo 13'. All that was needed, explained the star, was "a puffy jacket, a pair of oven mitts and some tupperware!" Check out the fun below!

Hanks will be making his Broadway debut in Lucky Guy, a new play from the late Nora Ephron. Directed by George C. Wolfe, Lucky Guy begins performances on March 1, 2013 at the Broadhurst Theatre with opening night set for April 1.

The actor's latest film 'Cloud Atlas,' opens in theaters today. The drama, mystery and action film is an epic about enduring love thread through a single story that unfolds in multiple timelines over the span of 500 years. Characters meet and reunite from one life to the next. Born and reborn. As the consequences of their actions and choices impact one another through the past, the present and the distant future, one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
