Allan Markowitz and concrete timbre & d'moiselles present Un Lieu de Vie, a bilingual (English and French), hybrid music-theatre work, at Gallery MC (549 West 52nd Street, between 10th and 11th Ave.) October 26th through November 3rd. Ann Warren directs, and Whitney George is the musical director.
Un Lieu de Vie is an experiential, collaboratively created piece, loosely based on the 1917 Jean Cocteau, Erik Satie and Pablo Picasso ballet collaboration Parade and explores parallels to and influences from Erik Satie's memory-evoking existence. It represents the collective memory of Erik, an eccentric, and lonely New York artist who seeks glimpses of the past while wandering the streets of Manhattan. His memories spring to life through the clamor of sounds, sights, projections and rhythms that fill the two rooms of Gallery MC. The performers move fluidly throughout the space, and audience members are able to do the same in this 75-minute work. The creative team includes writers Carina Beckerman, Terence Diamond, Mark Farnen, Nancy Greening, Sylvaine Hinglais, and Ann Warren as well as composers Chris Chappell, Whitney George, Lillian Redl, and Ann Warren with some words and music by Erik Satie. Projections are by Robert Morton. Michelle Stuckey is the choreographer and Joanne Schwartzberg the production stage manager.Videos
