Welcome to BroadwayWorld's Tony Award Countdown: 30 Years In 30 Days, a look at some of the Tony Awards' most memorable moments from the past three decades.

Lyricist Betty Comden was the first woman to win the Tony Award for Best Score, sharing the honor with her writing partner Adolph Green and composer Jule Styne for HALLELUJAH, BABY! (1968) and Green and composer Cy Coleman for ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY (1978) and THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES (1991).

Lyricist Lynn Ahrens was next, winning with her composer partner Stephen Flaherty for RAGTIME (1998). Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison shared composer/lyricist duties for their Tony-winning score for THE DROWSEY CHAPARONE (2006), but it wasn't until 2013 when a woman stood alone as the composer/lyricist of a Tony-winning score.

Pop icon Cyndi Lauper had appeared on Broadway in the 2006 revival of THE THREEPENNY OPERA, but it took a phone call from Harvey Fierstein to convince her that she was the perfect choice to write the score for KINKY BOOTS.

The glammed-up show, still a Broadway hit, pushes the important theme of accepting others, and in her moving speech, Lauper expressed how honored she was to be accepted by the Broadway community.

The American Theatre Wing's 70th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Tony Award winner James Corden, will air on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, June 12, 2016 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

Kinky Boots, led by producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig, won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Musical and is now in its 4th smash year on Broadway. The show is also playing hit productions in London's West End, Toronto, with upcoming productions announced for Australia, Japan, Korea and more.

KINKY BOOTS tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family's struggling business. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, the unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world. The winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award-winnerHarvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony Award- winner Jerry Mitchell. The Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Kinky Boots is available on Sony Masterworks Broadway.
