Thomas Cooley to Step in for Anthony Dean Griffey with Atlanta Symphony at Carnegie Hall, 4/30

Carnegie Hall today announced that tenor Thomas Cooley has agreed to step in for Anthony Dean Griffey, performing Britten's War Requiem with Music Director Robert Spano leading the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus tomorrow evening, Wednesday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Griffey is unable to appear due to illness. Mr. Cooley is joined by soprano Evelina Dobraeva, baritone Stephen Powell, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

This concert will air on WQXR 105.9 FM in New York and on stations nationwide as part of the Carnegie Hall Live broadcast and digital series, produced by WQXR and Carnegie Hall in collaboration with American Public Media and hosted by WQXR's Jeff Spurgeon and American Public Media's Fred Child. Concerts in the series are available for live streaming on wqxr.org and carnegiehall.org/wqxr. Minnesota-born tenor Thomas Cooley is quickly establishing a reputation as a singer of great versatility, expressiveness, and virtuosity. Highlights of the 2013-2014 season include Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, and the Bremen Philharmonic; Britten's War Requiem with the Grand Philharmonic Choir and Oregon and Indianapolis symphony orchestras; singing the role of Bob Boles in Britten's Peter Grimes with the St. Louis Symphony in Carnegie Hall; Peter Quint in Britten's Turn of the Screw with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra; the title role in Handel's Judas Maccabeus with the Pacific Symphony; Boyce's Solomon with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra; Handel's Messiah with the Houston Symphony; Bach's St. Matthew Passion with Seattle Symphony; Bach's St. John Passion with Pacific Musicworks; the title role in Handel's Samson at American Classical Orchestra; Bach's Magnificat and Bruckner's Te Deum with Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec; the role of Crown Prince in Puts's Silent Night with Cincinnati Opera; Tristan in Frank Martin's Le vin herbé with Bergen National Opera; and Acis in a new production of Handel's Acis and Galatea with the Mark Morris Dance Group.

Mr. Cooley's recordings include Mathan in Handel's Athalia with the Kölner Kammerchor (MDG) and the premiere recording of Vivaldi's Dixit Dominus (Deutsche Grammophon) as well as Mozart's Requiem with the Windsbacher Knabenchor (Sony) and Mozart's Coronation Mass and Mass in C Minor with Handel and Haydn Society (Coro Allegro).

BENJAMIN BRITTEN War Requiem, Op. 66

This concert is being broadcast live on Classical 105.9 FM WQXR, and streamed on wqxr.org and carnegiehall.org/wqxr as part of the Carnegie Hall Live series. It is also broadcast on radio stations across the country, courtesy of American Public Media.

Tickets, priced $32-$95, are available at the Carnegie Hall Box Office, 154 West 57th Street, as well as through calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800 or by visiting the Carnegie Hall website, carnegiehall.org.

For Carnegie Hall Corporation presentations taking place in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, a limited number of seats, priced at $10, will be available day-of-concert beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:00 noon on Sunday until one hour before the performance or until supply lasts. The exceptions are Carnegie Hall Family Concerts and gala events. These $10 tickets are available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis at the Carnegie Hall Box Office only. There is a two-ticket limit per customer.

In addition, for all Carnegie Hall presentations in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage a limited number of partial view (seats with obstructed or limited sight lines or restricted leg room) will be sold for 50% of the full price.
