Today, April 25 at 3:30 p.m., The Ziegfeld Society will present Susan and Lloyd Ecker, authors of the novel, I AM SOPHIE TUCKER: A Fictional Memoir (Prospecta Press; November 4, 2014; $27.50), for a special talk at Hunter College's Lang Hall. The Eckers will also show a clip from their documentary, The Outrageous Sophie Tucker.

A bawdy personality known for her risqué songs, Sophie Tucker embodied the true spirit of what it meant to be a Vaudevillian superstar. I AM SOPHIE TUCKER is the outrageous story of Tucker's jaw-dropping escapades including shocking Victorian morals by appearing on stage in a bubble bath, in leotards as the world's fattest fan dancer, and riding a horse in a nude-colored bodysuit as a zaftig Lady Godiva. Her relationships included the original gangsta, Al Capone; King George VI of Great Britain and his daughter, the future queen; seven United States presidents, J. Edgar Hoover, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin and just about every notable of her era. Copies of the book, which was just named a 2014 Finalist by Foreword Reviews INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards, will be available for purchase after the presentation.

The Ziegfeld Society is a non-profit organization founded by Mark York and Lucy Kerman in 2009 and named for legendary Broadway producer Florenz Ziegfeld, best known for his annual ZIEGFELD FOLLIES and the original production of SHOW BOAT. The Society aspires to enlighten, entertain and educate current as well as future generations of theatergoers and young artists about the legendary performers, songwriters and creators of our musical theater heritage from the early decades of the 20th century, through Broadway's Golden Age and beyond.

Tickets for the Eckers presentation are $8 for members and $16 for non-members. Student tickets are available for $7 and can be purchased online at www.theziegfeldsociety.com. For more information about this event and The Ziegfeld Society, call (917) 371-5509.
