Improbable Stage, a bold and exciting not-for-profit, movement-based theatre company now in its seventh year in New York City, will debut its new theatre piece Rough Draft Thursday, September 17th - Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 at the East Village's The Wild Project.

Rough Draft, a powerful and compelling theatre piece utilizing movement as its primary vocabulary, tells the story of an established novelist for whom a tragic event serves as a catalyst for self examination. Having believed his life was a well written book, he must question and redefine for himself what it means to be "successful" and discover if he possesses the courage to begin anew, another "rough draft."

Improbable Stage's thought-provoking exploration in this upcoming production echoes in their unique and important place within NYC's theatre community. Every month Improbable Stage hosts a free theatre workshop as an opportunity for artists to escape the difficulties and pressures of show business. "The business is harsh," says Artistic Director Stacy A. Donovan, "The business is competitive. The business, especially in New York City, is exclusive. Improbable Stage is inclusive; we care about creating a community of artists and a place where those artists can get back to the joy that brought them to the theatre in the first place."

Improbable incorporates this same generosity of spirit into their rehearsals. Their development process is based on ensemble collaboration, striving to consider and incorporate every individual's ideas and input. "The top priority [of] this process is to create a space where every person in it feels valued and integral to the work being created, " Donovan explains, "This is not to say that there is no rehearsal etiquette, no hierarchy, no director...These things are essential to the process; however, they can all happen while all members of the ensemble feel free to contribute."

Rough Draft is performed by Maxime Briere, Bill Chameides, Victor Cervantes, Ryan Castro, Tali Custer, Julia Hansen, Lauren Lasorda and Dylan Wittrock. Rough Draft is directed by Stacy A. Donovan and features original music by NYC composer Frank Grullon, as well as designs by Elizabeth Van Buren (costumes), John Lavigne (scenic), Jorge I. Sanchez (sound) and Robert M. Stevenson (lighting and projection).
