The Producers' Fund Announces 2017 Philadelphia Theatre Grant Recipients

The Producers' Fund, a collective of donors who have created a fund at the Philadelphia Foundation, has announced their 2017 grant recipients.

The Fund, which is comprised of 16 donors, was established in 2016 at The Philadelphia Foundation. Donors to the fund work collaboratively to review grant applications from theater companies that develop and produce new works generated by female playwrights and/or directors. The Fund seeks to enrich theater in Philadelphia by bringing more and varied stories and voices to the city's stages.

"Even through we're a new Fund, we're already looking forward to the time when 'woman' is no longer a sub-category of playwright or director, and when we don't have to advocate for the equality of voice for our female theater artists," said Sonya Aronowitz, writer, producer, and the Fund's Founder. "Until that time, we will continue to make small yet mighty grants to Philadelphia theaters for new work by women theatre artists. It's a necessary and urgent call for artistic directors and producers to pay attention to the creative value that so many talented women theater artists bring to the cultural life of our city."

The Producers' Fund 2017 grant recipients are :

Iron Age Theatre Company

$2,500 towards the development and potential production of Daniella Mooney's first full-length work, Rivulets (Working Title).

Orbiter 3

$4,000 for the production of the world premiere of Lauren Feldman's A People.

Power Street Theatre Company (PTSC)

$2,000 towards the premiere of Las Mujeres by Erlina Ortiz.

Theatre Exile

$1,500 towards the expansion of the Studio X-hibition play development program season to focus on female playwrights.

Sam Tower + Ensemble

$2,500 towards a world premiere work of physical theatre, Strange Tenants, in the 2017 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

Simpatico Theatre

$2,500 towards the salaries of the all-female production team for the production of Dry Land by Ruby Rae Spiegel.
