Award-winning PBS writer/performer Slash Coleman and internationally renowned Indian musician Kumar Das will present the world premiere ofThe Shalom Bombay Show beginning on August 28, 2012 with five shows running through September 2, 2012 at Theatre for The New City. The production is being presented as part of the 2012 Dream Up Festival. The third annual theatre festival takes place from August 19 - September 9 in New York City's East Village and consists of 25 theatrical world premiers including drama, poetry, music, and dance.

The Shalom Bombay Show, which is directed by Barbara Aliprantis, features the personal stories of two cousins from two completely different backgrounds and interpretations of those stories through jazz piano and Indian tabla. Set against the backdrop of small towns in Bangladesh and Virginia in the 70's, the performers "explore the mainstream obsession with the mysticism of India while demystifying Jewish culture and Indian culture."

"I married Slash's Jewish cousin two years ago, making us cousins," Kumar Das, who recently played at the Martin Luther King Memorial dedication with President Obama, says, "and the more we talked, the more we discovered we both had something to say about how limiting the rules that govern our two, very distinct cultures and identity were."

"I couldn't believe that in this day and age my cousins were disowned by their family," Coleman says. "That's why our tag line is, 'Two Tribes one Quest.' Our show is sort of a spiritual adventure of music and personal stories."

The Shalom Bombay Show will take place on Tuesday, August 28 9:00 pm, Wednesday, August 29 9:00 pm, Thursday, August 30 6:30 pm, Saturday, September 1 8:00 pm, Sunday, September 2 5:00 pm at Theater for the New City 155 First Avenue New York, NY 10003 (between 9th and 10th). Tickets may be purchased online at www.smarttix.com or by calling the box office 212-924-0496. Tickets are $15. More information about the production may be found at www.theshalombombayshow.com.
