Indie filmmaker Spike Lee has joined the likes of James Franco, Zach Braff and the legions of Veronica Mars fans in launching his own Kickstarter campaign to finance his latest project -- an as-of-yet untitled film about human beings who are addicted to blood.

Lee's funds have now surpassed $100,000 in just two days. That total includes a $10,000 pledge from fellow director Steven Soderbergh.

Lee Tweeted today: "Super Shoutout To My Man Director Steven Soderbergh Who Pledges $10,000 To Have Dinner And SIt Courtside With Me To See NY Knicks.THANK YOU."

The director describes his upcoming movie as "Funny, sexy, and bloody (and it's not "Blacula")..." After debuting the Kickstarter project, Lee talked to Variety about his motiviations. "I've always been an independent filmmaker who does Hollywood-financed films. So I go back and forth," he said. "My favorite filmmakers are storytellers, and that's what I'm going to continue to do, whether it's independent film onKickstarter or studio films. I can't wait around. I want to make films. In this business, you've got to be able to adapt."

Lee's other current projects include a feature-length documentary called GO BRAZIL, GO, the film version of Mike Tyson's one-man Broadway show UNDISPUTED TRUTH for HBO, his upcoming remake OLDBOY and the recently announced INSIDE MAN 2.
