ABOUT 6x6:

Six passionate playwrights, six unpredictable plays, one wild hour: Southern Rep's 6x6 is a monthly play-slam of inventive proportions. 6x6 Playwrights are given a "surprise" theme about which they must write a ten-minute play. After a blind reading, the six plays with the most votes are given a staged reading at Mid-City Theatre. Every month, a new theme, and six new plays!

6x6 PLAYWRIGHTS ON THE PROGRAM:

"Getting a monthly prompt has been a fantastic way for me to expand my collection of ten-minute plays and launch them into the world - many of the plays I've written for 6x6 have gone on to receive recognition and be performed elsewhere!"- Ariadne Blayde

"6x6 seeks to nurture the playwright while challenging them to become better writers. The monthly prompts allow for experimentation with different genres and styles and the feedback on submissions is both insightful and supportive. Above all, 6x6 gives novice playwrights like me the opportunity to have their work produced, directed, and performed by respected members of the New Orleans theatre community and for that I am truly grateful." - Amanda Zirkenbach

'There's a lot to love about 6x6. In an environment when the typical response time from a theatre is six to nine months, getting a play up in two weeks is a breath of fresh air. Not only that, we're always working with a great people, and I love meeting all the talented actors and directors than Southern Rep brings in." - Ross Peter Nelson

"6x6 is community building through theatre." - Juli van Brown

ABOUT 3x3:THE ONE ACTS:

Southern Rep's 3x3:THE ONE ACTS is a quarter-annual showcase that gives "graduates" of the 6x6 program a chance to take the play-slam format further.3x3 playwrights are given three months to write one act plays that then receive workshop productions.

3x3 PLAYWRIGHTS ON THE PROGRAM:

"3x3 affords me the opportunity to create a one-act play for production, annually. The critiques by the 3x3 members during the readings enable me to reevaluate my work, and grow as a writer. 3x3 has been a very valuable experience." - Pat Bourgeois

"Seeing those words I type out on a blank screen come to life is an absolute thrill. And being given that opportunity with such regularity is priceless." - Brian Sands

"Sourthern Rep's 3x3 is an awesome way to bring together the playwriting community in New Orleans and...has offered me opportunities to grow with my colleagues by supporting and challenging each other." - Lisa Shattuck
