Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert Has Something for Everyone

From dawn over the mighty Volga river, to dawn over a simple frontier homestead in Appalachia, the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra fall concert has something for everyone! Conducted by USM professor Robert Lehmann, the orchestra will present their fall concert at Gorham Middle School and will feature the USM School of Music's new head of our vocal studies program, voice professor, Mariana Mihai-Zoeter.

Aaron Copland's iconic Appalachian Spring and Mozart's penultimate symphony, the great G minor Symphony No. 40, anchor the fall SMSO concert around which various operatic pieces make guest appearances.

Otto Nicolai's Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor, which opens the concert, is a teaser for next spring's fully staged production of the complete opera. Mussorgsky's Prelude to the opera Khovanschina is a miniature gem or the Russian opera canon.

The USM School of Music's newest faculty member and head of the vocal department, soprano Mariana Mihai-Zoeter, will present the brilliant and virtuosic showstopper from Massenet's opera Manon.
