Oscar-nominated actress Sophie Okonedo will return to the stage in a psychological drama according to the Daily Mail. Okonedo will star with Ben Daniels, and a seven-year-old boy yet to be cast, in Joe Penhall's new play HAUNTED CHILD. The production will be directed by Jeremy Herrin and will open at the Royal Court on December 2.

The show tells the story of a small boy and his mother who live in West London. The boy is haunted by his father's disappearance.

"The mother's not sure if he's dead. We do know the father has had some sort of psychotic episode and a cult might be involved," Penhall said.

Penhall is glad he has convinced Okonedo to return to theatre. "Sophie's not shabby: I've finally written something that's good enough for her!"

Penhall is also working a cowboy film, ‘Butcher's Crossing,' for Sam Mendes to direct.
