Simon & Schuster Moving Forward with @GSElevator Book Deal After Author's Identity Revealed

Despite John LeFevre's identity being revealed as the man behind the Twitter @GSElevator page, which featured conversations overheard at Goldman Sachs - and the fact that he was never employed by the bank - Simon & Schuster will be moving forward with his book deal, according to The New York Times.

"The great interest in the identity of who was behind the Twitter feed, and in his employment history, only speaks to how much his@GSElevator tweets have been a lightning rod for conversation, as well as to the quality of his writing," the publisher said in a statement of LeFevre's book STRAIGHT TO HELL: TRUE TALES OF DEVIANCE AND EXCESS IN THE WORLD OF INVESTMENT BANKING.

In his initial pitch, LeFevre, a former bond salesman, suggested he worked for Goldman, which editors are now calling "Very tricky wording" and "almost Clintonian."

With the deal moving forward, editors are only slightly concered that the admission of his idenity would undermine LeFevre's credibility. Per The Times, "publishers were drawn to the book because of the sardonic, sharply written Twitter feed, which has about 630,000 followers. 'My Twitter feed," said the 18-page proposal, "has hit a cultural nerve, offering an uncensored view into a world that is both envied and loathed, but never dull.'"

STRAIGHT TO HELL is set for an October 2014 release.
