STAGE TUBE: WE ARE THE WORLD 25 FOR HAITI Premieres During The Olympics
Minutes prior to the start of the Olympic games in Vancouver on Friday, February 12, NBC aired an abbreviated version of 'We Are the World 25 for Haiti', a recording to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake. We are the World received a similar all-star recording in 1985, written by Richie and the late Michael Jackson, to benefit victims in Africa suffering from famine. Barbra Streisand, who is also participating in the recording told Hart that Richie and Jones "say the intensity is 50 times greater than 1985."
This new version of We are the World is being recorded at the former A&M Recording Studios - the same studio in which the original version was recorded 25 years ago. Ricky Minor serves as musical director for the song, which features a new verse dedicated especially to the Haiti victims by Will.I.Am of The Black Eyed Peas.
