Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look-a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Based on the film comedy of the same name, Sister Act features the music of Tony and Oscar-winning composer, Alan Menken. He won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Original Score for Newsies and was nominated the year prior for Sister Act. He is an eight-time Academy Award winner, receiving both Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for four different Disney animated films, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas. Only composer Alfred Newman (9) and Walt Disney (22) have received more Oscars than Menken.

Sister Act was written by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. The lyrics were provided by Glenn Slater to accompany the music of Menken. Slater won a Grammy Award for in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category for the song "I See The Light" from the animated Disney film Tangled. Whoopi Goldberg, who played Deloris Van Cartier in the Sister Act films, is a producer of the Broadway Adaption. She is one of an elite group of artists who have won Academy, Grammy, Emmy and Tony awards.
