HANGMEN by Martin McDonagh, currently playing the Royal Court Theatre's Jerwood Theatre Downstairs through 10 October, transfers to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre on 1 December 2015. David Morrissey, in the lead role, will travel with the production.

Safety in this show is imperative. The Daily Mail recently spoke with producer Matthew Byam Shaw, who said, "It's a big set, with tricks and surprises, and safety is the key." Morrissey added that the cast and crew "have specific jobs" to keep everything above board.

On jumping at the chance to return to the stage, Morrissey told the Mail, "McDonagh writes in such a beautiful rhythm that you turn off all your phones and lock the door to your office to read it." Talking about his dark character, he continued, "I don't think you always have to like your characters. But you do have to empathise with them."

Per press notes, HANGMEN is set in a small pub in Oldham, where "Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry's reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit. 'Don't worry. I may have my quirks but I'm not an animal. Or am I? One for the courts to discuss.' Martin McDonagh returns to the Royal Court with his first UK play in more than ten years. Matthew Dunster directs."

Joining Morrissey in the cast are Josef Davies, James Dryden, Johnny Flynn, Graeme Hawley, John Hodgkinson, Ralph Ineson, Bronwyn James, Ryan Pope, Sally Rogers and Simon Rouse. The Daily Mail writes that original star Reece Shearsmith will not be transferring with the production due to scheduling conflicts.

HANGMEN features designs by Anna Fleischle, lighting by Joshua Carr and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
