Roundabout's VIOLET with Sutton Foster Gets Cast Recording; PS Classics to Release 2-Disc Set in June

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced that PS Classics will record the cast album of Violet on April 7, 2014. This Original Broadway Cast Recording, a two-disc set, will be released on June 3. The production is currently playing at the American Airlines Theatre through August 10, 2014.

The album is currently available for pre-order at the PS Classics website, www.psclassics.com.

The recording will be produced by PS Classics co-founder Tommy Krasker, who previously helmed Grammy-nominated cast albums of Roundabout Theatre Company productions of Nine, Assassins and Sondheim on Sondheim. This album marks the sixth collaboration between Roundabout Theatre Company and PS Classics. This album is made possible in part through the generosity of Elizabeth Armstrong and Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino.

Two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, Colin Donnell, Alexander Gemignani, and Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry star in Violet with Ben Davis, Annie Golden, Emerson Steele, Austin Lesch, Anastacia McCleskey, Charlie Pollock, Jacob Keith Watson, Rema Webb and Virginia Ann Woodruff.

Directed by Leigh Silverman, the Broadway production of Violet includes music by four-time Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley. Orchestrations are by Rick Bassett, Joseph Joubert and Buryl Red with Music Direction by Michael Rafter and choreography by Jeffrey Page. The design team includes David Zinn (Sets), Clint Ramos (Costumes), Mark Barton (Lights) and Leon Rothenberg (Sound).

VIOLET is produced in association with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, David Mirvish, Barry and Fran Weissler, Elizabeth Armstrong, and Mary Jo and Ted Shen.

Partial underwriting support for Violet provided by Gina and David Boonshoft.

VIOLET tells the story of a young woman's quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet (Foster) dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime. Along the way, Violet forms unlikely friendships with her fellow riders, who teach her about beauty, love, courage and what it means to be an outsider.

VIOLET opened off-Broadway for a limited run at Playwrights Horizons on March 11, 1997. It won the Obie Award, Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical. This production is based on the 2013 New York City Center Encores! Off-Center concert production of Violet starring Sutton Foster and directed by Leigh Silverman.

Roundabout's 2013-2014 season includes Donald Margulies' Dinner with Friends, directed by Pam MacKinnon; Masteroff, Kander & Ebb's Cabaret, starring Alan Cumming, Michelle Williams, directed by Sam Mendes & Rob Marshall (co-director/choreographer); Tesori & Crawley's Violet, starring Sutton Foster, directed by Leigh Silverman; and Just Jim Dale, starring Jim Dale, directed by Richard Maltby Jr.

Roundabout's 2014-2015 season includes Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing starring Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal & Cynthia Nixon, directed by Sam Gold; Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink starring Rosemary Harris & directed by Carey Perloff; Michael Frayn's Noises Off, starring Andrea Martin, directed by Jeremy Herrin; and Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Into the Woods.
