Starting in the fall, Raleigh Little Theatre will offer a class for 2-4 year olds for the first time along with their parents. The Theatre has also introduced a new framework for parents to figure out which class is right for their child.

"We created a new class for ages 2-4 and their parents because we wanted to create more opportunities for Raleigh families to play and create together. This class is designed specifically to meet the needs and interests of parents with young children. Parents and children will explore stories together by becoming characters, making crafts and hopefully finding new ways to play at home after the class is done. At RLT, our family series productions draw audiences of multiple generations, and now parents and caregivers of very young children can discover drama together in this new class," said Meredyth Pederson, RLT's new director of education.

Pederson joined the theater's staff in March, coming from the Lexington Children's Theatre, where she was the Associate Director of Education. She is also the managing editor of TYA Today, a nationally and internationally respected magazine for the field of theatre for young audiences.

The coming school year also marks the beginning of a new framework for parents to understand which class is the best fit for their child.

· Discovering Drama. These classes encourage students to use their imagination, drama and play to explore the world of a story. Using art, drama, music and movement, students will discover and create characters, engage in creative problem solving, and practice working together.

· Skill Building. Learn, build and strengthen foundational theatre skills in a fun and supportive environment. Build your stage skills and confidence in classes including acting, improvisation, Shakespeare and more.

· Artist Development. For students who want to hone their artistic craft and dive deeper into specific theatre skills, these classes focus on developing the creative tools that engaged and collaborative artists need to embody complex characters, design theatrical worlds, and tell meaningful stories.
