
The Public Theater announced today that it will open the
2008 Shakespeare in the Park summer season with Artistic Director Oskar Eustis
directing Hamlet. Hamlet will star
Tony Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg in the title role with Tony Award winner
Richard Easton as Polonius. Hamlet has not been staged at The
Delacorte Theater since 1975 when Sam Waterston played the title role. Hamlet
will begin previews on Tuesday, May 27 and run through Sunday, June 29.
Michael Stuhlbarg has performed at The Public in Measure for Pleasure, Twelfth Night, The Winter's Tale, A Dybbuk,
Henry VIII, Richard II (title role), All's
Well That Ends Well, Woyzeck. His
Broadway credits include The Pillowman
(Tony Award Nomination, Drama Desk Award, Drama League Honoree), The Invention of Love, Cabaret, Taking Sides, Timon Of Athens,
The Government Inspector, and Saint Joan.
Richard Easton (Polonius). Broadway: The Coast of Utopia trilogy, The
Rivals, Henry IV, The Invention of Love (Tony, Drama Desk,
Outer Critics Circle, Drama League Awards), Noises
Off, Exit the King, The Misanthrope, The Cherry Orchard, Hamlet,

Performances of Shakespeare in the Park will be Tuesday through
Sunday at 8PM. Tickets are FREE and will be available on the day of the
performance (two per person) at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park beginning
at 1PM and at The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street (near Astor Place), from
1PM-3PM. The closest entrances to the Delacorte are at 81st Street and Central Park West or 70th
Street and Fifth Avenue.
