Soul Theatre returns to the Chicago theatre scene with a three-week engagement of Harold Pinter's comedic one-act THE LOVER, directed by Paul Wagar, playing June 28 – July 15, 2012 at A Red Orchid Theatre, 1531 N. Wells St. in Chicago. THE LOVER features Ravi Batista, Carl Lindberg and Mick Weber. Tickets for THE LOVER are currently available through Brown Paper Tickets here. The press opening is Thursday, June 28 at 7:30 pm. Get a first look at the production in the photos below!

In Pinter's comedic drama, a married couple tries to spice up their relationship by pretending to have an affair. But the worlds of fantasy and reality quickly collide and their erotic role-playing game spirals out of control. THE LOVER is Soul Theatre's first full production since 2005 – and marks the company's first-ever Equity production.

Harold Pinter was an English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor whose best-known plays include The Birthday Party, The Homecoming and Betrayal, among others. His screenplay adaptations include The Servant, The Go-Between, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Trial and Sleuth. Pinter won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005.

Paul Wagar is an L.A.-based director making his Chicago directing debut. He served as Artistic Director for Actor's Initiative and the Toronto Repertory Theater. Wagar spent ten years as the Producing Director of the Philadelphia Area Repertory Theater and directed for the Shakespeare Theater in Washington, D.C. and the Pulse Theater Ensemble in New York. He has worked as an actor with The Royal Shakespeare Company, The New Shakespeare Company and The Stratford Festival in Canada. Wagar currently serves as Artistic Director for the Ark Theatre Company.

Soul Theatre is on a mission to create radiant joy, infectious laughter, to scatter its seeds on fallen dreams and watch them rise again. Scatterbrain sweetness runs through our veins and we believe that every meeting should end with something delicious.
