Last night in NYC, Academy Award and Tony Award-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, The View's Raven-Symoné, and Tony Award-winner & Emmy-nominated actress Phylicia Rashad presented at the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation's Bright Lights Shining Stars Gala honoring Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actress, dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who opened the evening with a beautiful speech about dance and Debbie Allen, was accompanied to the gala by her husband, Michael Douglas (she was honored in 2013 by the NYC Dance Alliance). Phylicia Rashad, Debbie Allen's sister, along with Raven-Symoné, presented Ms. Allen with the Alliance's 'Ambassador for the Arts Award' at last night's event which took place at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

This exciting, star-studded evening of song & dance served as a fundraiser for the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation, which since 2010 has awarded over $15 million in college scholarships to hundreds of student dancers across the country (including $4 million this year alone). The evening also included performances from the Broadway and dance communities and a special tribute to Debbie Allen.

In addition to Debbie Allen's numerous credits on stage & screen (Fame, West Side Story, Sweet Charity) and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she is also an accomplished television director & producer and is a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, to which she was appointed in 2001.

The NYC Dance Alliance Foundation, Inc. is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) public charity, committed to broadening performing arts awareness while advocating education and high standards of excellence in dance. NYCDAF is dedicated to investing in the next generation of professional performers by offering scholarships for secondary and college education. For more information, visit www.NYCDAFoundation.net.
