Photo Coverage: Shout! The Mod Musical Opens
Shout! The Mod Musical, which is making its New York debut this summer at the Julia Miles Theatre (424 West 55 Street), began previews on July 11th and opened on July 27th.
"Shout! flips through the years like a musical magazine, tracking five young women as they come of age during the liberating days of the 1960s that made England swing. It is a non-stop journey through the infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads that made household names of stars like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu," according to press notes. Shout! uses letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for hits like "To Sir With Love," "Downtown," "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," "Son of A Preacher Man," and "Goldfinger."
Each young woman in the cast is identified by the color of her costume, reflecting a composite personality: Marie-France Arcilla (Blue), Erin Crosby (Yellow), Julie Dingman-Evans (Orange) Erica Schroeder (Green), and Denise Summerford (Red). The cast has numerous New York and regional credits. Shout! is co-created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein. Lowenstein choreographs and George directs, with additional material by Peter Charles Morris and George.
