Second Stage Theatre's New York premiere production of Theresa Rebeck's play The Scene opened on January 11th after beginning previews on December 12th.  The play is slated to run through February 4th.  The opening night party took place at Spanky's Barbeque Restaurant.

Starring Tony Shalhoub ("Monk," The Heidi Chronicles) and Patricia Heaton ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Christopher Evan Welch (Festen, The Crucible) and Anna Camp (columbinus), the play is directed by Barrymore Award-winner Rebecca Taichman (Green Violin in Philadelphia).  "Using the surreal world of Manhattan party-goers as its background, The Scene is a shrewd and bitter comedy about the empty narcissism of American pop culture," state press notes.  "Clea's ready to make it.  Charlie's trying to retake it.  Lewis wants to change it.  And Stella is simply over it.  It's the New York entertainment 'scene' in all its boozing, schmoozing and using glory," according to Second Stage notes.

Rebeck's other plays include Mauritius, Spike Heels and The Family of Mann.
