OLIVIER LIBAUX: THE UNCOVERED QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

Olivier Libaux is a French record producer, songwriter and guitar player (born on May 5th 1964 in Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France). A founding member of cult French band "Les Objets", co-founder of the famous "Nouvelle Vague" project - covering punk/new wave songs in a boss nova style - he is the producer of "Uncovered QOTSA". In May 2011, Olivier asked Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) his authorization to cover Queens Of The Stone Age songs in a "personal" way, in order to create a "unusual tribute album", with the help of many talented female singers. Josh Homme answered "Fantastic Idea. Go for it and let me hear the album when you're finished". Olivier then produced the album "Uncovered Queens Of The Stone Age" on his own label "Music For Music Lovers", featuring Emiliana Torrini, Alela Diane, Skye (Morcheeba), Clare Manchon (Clare And The Reasons), Susan Dillane (Woodbine, Death In Vegas), Gaby Moreno, Ambrosia Parsley (Shivaree), Inara George, Rosemary Standley (Moriarty), Youn Sun Nah, and Katharine Whalen (Squirrel Nut Zippers).

NORA JANE STRUTHERS & THE PARTY LINE

Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line are a traveling Carnival of acoustic Americana. The high energy, Nashville-based quintet perform Struthers' original story-songs with tight, three-part harmonies, fiddle, claw-hammer banjo, acoustic guitar, bass, and drums. Struthers was catapulted into the spotlight when she lead her band to a blue ribbon at the prestigious 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition (previous winners include Nickel Creek and The Dixie Chicks) and now her group is touring heavily in support of their April 16 release, Carnival. Nora Jane Struthers steps forward with a distinctive sound and on-stage style - her personal collection of vintage dresses makes her one of the most visually striking of modern acoustic artists. But the moving, perceptive, and witty songs on Carnival represent a new quantum leap, born of hard work and deep creative reflection. The album marks the recording debut of Struthers' touring band, the Party Line (which takes its handle from one of the record's songs, about the early days of rural telephone calls). The gifted group of instrumentalists includes Struthers' longtime collaborator P. J. George (upright bass, harmony vocals, pedal steel guitar, accordion and banjo), Joe Overton (clawhammer banjo and harmony vocals), Aaron Jonah Lewis (fiddle, three-finger banjo, baritone fiddle, mandolin) and Drew Lawhorn (drums).

DANCENOW JOE'S PUB FESTIVAL: ENCORE PERFORMANCE

Presenting the top ten works selected by the audience during the DanceNOW Joe's Pub Festival. Each evening during DanceNOW Joe's Pub Festival run, from October 9 to 12, the audience will vote for a Challenge winner (the 40 festival artists are asked to take the DanceNOW "less is more" mantra truly to heart and create a choreographic work of five minutes or less that makes a concise artistic statement) who will receive a free weeklong creative residency at DanceNOW Silo on Kirkland Farm in Pennsylvania. The TOP TEN CHOREOGRAPHERS whose work best meets this challenge will be invited to participate in ENCORE! on September 15. One winner from the entire festival run, selected by DANCENOW producers and advisors, will receive a $1,000 creative development stipend, a free weeklong creative residency at Silo on Kirkland Farm, and a 20-hour space grant from the Gibney Dance Center.

Terakaft (meaning "caravan" in Tamasheq) is a genuine desert rock band, sculpted by the pure searing air and the endless rolling sands of the Sahara. The stark, harsh conditions of the Sahara have permeated their wild riffs, and as a result Terakaft are the perfect embodiment of all that is wild and free in desert blues today. They have taken the electric guitar and made it their own.Terakaft was formed in 2001 by Sanou Ag Ahmed, then based in Kidal, Mali with Kedou Ag Ossad. Kedou was a member of the original line-up of Tinariwen (four of Kedou's compositions are embodied on their first international release "The Radio Tisdas Sessions").Liya Ag Ablil (aka Diara), Sanou's uncle, joined the band in 2006. Diara was also an original member of Tinariwen and was known for his fierce and passionate style of rock'n'roll guitar playing. He played with Tinariwen for almost 20 years, but stepped back just before Tinariwen started touring internationally. He's still a close friend of Ibrahim "Abaraybone" Ag Alhabib, and played on Tinariwen's last album "Imidiwan : Companions" (as did Sanou and Abdallah of Terakaft).

PUBLIC FORUM DRAMA CLUB
LIFE BY ASYPHIXIATION BY Kia Corthron

In PUBLIC FORUM Drama Club, authors, musicians, journalists, scholars, and actors will come together to give onstage readings of one-act plays that have some special resonance in our lives today. Each reading will conclude with a discussion of the hard questions that the play raises about our politics, our culture, and the way we live now. Corthron's play will be read and discussed by Academy Award winner Holly Hunter (The Piano), Ron Cephas Jones (Titus Andronicus), Wendell Pierce(The Wire), Kirk Bloodsworth, the first man exonerated from death row based on DNA evidence, and Barry Scheck (the co-founder of The Innocence Project). It play tells the story of Jojo, a black man on death row for raping and murdering a white girl decades earlier. He is visited by her ghost, and Nat Turner is locked up in the cell next door. After reading the play, the cast will tackle the hard questions it raises about race, justice, mercy, friendship, and the death penalty. The fourth season of Public Forum begins at Joe's Pub with the new Drama Club series, a book club for plays that will feature one-night-only readings and discussions of works by Kia Corthron, Tony Kushner, and Thornton Wilder. Curated by Jeremy McCarter, the popular Public Forum series presents the theater of ideas: conversations and performances with leading voices in politics, media, and the arts.
