The January broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra in an all-Mozart program: the Mass in C minor, Great, and Piano Concerto No. 22, featuring Emanuel Ax as soloist. The Mass features soprano Jennifer Zetlan, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, tenor Paul Appleby, baritone Joshua Hopkins, and the New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Flummerfelt.

Next, Music Director Emeritus Kurt Masur leads the New York Philharmonic in Dvorak's Cello Concerto with Yo-Yo Ma as soloist, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 featuring soprano Sylvia McNair, mezzo-soprano Florence Quivar, tenor Stuart Neil, bass Rene Pape, the New York Choral Artists directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, and The American Boychoir directed by James Litton.

In the third week of January broadcasts Jeffrey Kahane conducts the New York Philharmonic and performs on the harpsichord and piano. The program opens with J.S. Bach's Concerto for Violin and Oboe, featuring Acting Concertmaster Sheryl Staples and Principal Oboe Liang Wang, with Mr. Kahane leading from the harpsichord, followed by Mozart's Symphony No. 33. Mr. Kahane conducts the concluding work, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, from the piano.

January concludes with Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra and former Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman in Bartok's Piano Concerto No. 3, followed by Bruckner's Symphony No. 8.

The first broadcast in February features a recording of the late Spanish conductor Rafael Fru?hbeck de Burgos conducting the New York Philharmonic in two secular cantatas: selections from Falla's Atla?ntida and Orff's complete Carmina burana. The international cast that Mr. Fru?hbeck assembled for these performances features American sopranos Erin Morley and Emalie Savoy, American tenor Nicholas Phan, South African baritone Jacques Imbrailo, the Spanish chorus Orpheon Pamplone?s directed by Igor Ijurra Ferna?ndez, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, directed by Dianne Berkun Menaker.

Next, Alan Gilbert leads the Orchestra in a performance of J.S. Bach's Keyboard Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052; and Schoenberg's Piano Concerto with Emanuel Ax as soloist. The program concludes with Mozart's Symphony No. 36, Linz.

In the third week of February, Kurt Masur conducts Brahms's Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4. And for the final February broadcast, Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Rudolf Buchbinder as soloist, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathe?tique.

The Philharmonic's March broadcasts feature the leadership of Alan Gilbert, beginning with a performance from the 2014-15 season. In the first week of March broadcasts Alan Gilbert leads the Orchestra in Verdi's Requiem featuring soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano Lilli Paasikivi, tenor Brandon Jovanovich, bass-baritone Eric Owens, and New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Flummerfelt. The following week, Alan Gilbert leads the Orchestra in The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Phantasmata; Bloch's Schelomo, featuring cellist Jan Vogler; and Brahms's Symphony No. 1.

In the third week of March, Alan Gilbert conducts the New York Philharmonic in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25 with Emanuel Ax as soloist, followed by Bruckner's Symphony No. 3.

In the final week of March broadcasts Alan Gilbert conducts one installment of Gilbert's Playlist - four weeks of programs in the 2012-13 season conducted by Alan Gilbert showcasing themes and ideas that have become a hallmark of the Music Director's tenure: the New York Premiere of the Symphony No. 3 by The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse and A Ring Journey, Mr. Gilbert's own synthesis of orchestral music from Wagner's Ring Cycle, based on Erich Leinsdorf's condensed version. The broadcast will begin with Haydn's Piano Concerto No. 11 in D major with Emanuel Ax as soloist.

The New York Philharmonic This Week airs locally in the New York metropolitan area on WQXR 105.9 FM, Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. [Check local listings.] Concerts are available on the Philharmonic's Website, nyphil.org, for two weeks following the broadcast. The broadcasts are syndicated to more than 465 outlets nationally and 122 outlets internationally by the WFMT Radio Network. The New York Philharmonic will also begin to be heard on the radio in China on Shanghai Classical 94.7 FM every other Friday at 7:00 p.m. beginning January 16 thanks to a new agreement between the WFMT Radio Network and the Shanghai East Radio Company. Alec Baldwin is the host, New York Philharmonic Audio Producer Mark Travis is the broadcast producer, and Audio Director Lawrence Rock is the music producer.

The New York Philharmonic's first live national radio broadcast took place on October 5, 1930, over the CBS radio network. On that Sunday Erich Kleiber was on the podium leading the Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Since that historic broadcast, the Philharmonic has enjoyed an almost continuous presence on national radio. Advancing its role as a media pioneer, the Philharmonic, since 2002, has shared its radio broadcasts with a worldwide audience through its Website, nyphil.org. In 2004 the New York Philharmonic was the first major American orchestra to offer downloadable concerts, recorded live. Following on this innovation, in 2009 the Orchestra announced the first-ever subscription download series: Alan Gilbert: The Inaugural Season, available exclusively on iTunes, produced and distributed by the New York Philharmonic, and comprising more than 50 works performed during the 2009-10 season. In the 2013-14 season, the Orchestra released another digital recording series: Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic: 2013-14 Season. The first two albums are now available for download and streaming. Since 1917 the Philharmonic has made nearly 2,000 recordings, with more than 500 currently available.

The WFMT Radio Network, the international syndication division of award-winning Chicago classical music station 98.7WFMT, distributes these broadcasts worldwide. In addition to the New York Philharmonic broadcasts, the WFMT Radio Network syndicates many programs, including concerts by the Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Milwaukee symphony orchestras, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, as well as ongoing series such as Relevant Tones, Fiesta!, and Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin. The WFMT Radio Network also offers a full season of performances by American opera companies such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, and more. In addition, exclusive programming from Carnegie Hall, Germany's Deutsche Welle Radio, and dozens of classical, folk, jazz, documentaries, and specials are offered to radio outlets around the world.
