Due to unprecedented audience demand, NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE has announced special encore screenings of The National Theatre of Great Britain's acclaimed Olivier Award winning production of FRANKENSTEIN, a play by Nick Dear based on Mary Shelley's novel. The production stars Olivier Award winners Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, and directed by Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle, in select cinemas worldwide on October 27 & 29, 2014. Tickets go on sale beginning this Friday, September 12. Dates vary at venues internationally and further screenings will follow.

The production was a sell-out hit at the National Theatre in 2011, and the broadcast has since become an international sensation, experienced by almost half a million people in cinemas around the world. In this new adaptation, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternated in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. National Theatre Live filmed FRANKENSTEIN twice so audiences could experience Cumberbatch and Miller in each role.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller shared both the Olivier Award and London Evening Standard Award for Best Actor for their respective performances. The production won Critics' Circle Theatre Awards for Best Actor (Cumberbatch) and Best Design (Mark Tildesley). Danny Boyle received the What's on Stage Award for Best Director.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale. Now celebrating its 6th year broadcasting live performances to cinema screens internationally, National Theatre Live has now been experienced by over 3 million people worldwide. The first season began in June 2009 with the acclaimed production of Phédre starring Helen Mirren. Recent broadcasts have included the award-winning original West End production of War Horse, NT's 50th anniversary celebration Live from the National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage, Tom Hiddleston in Coriolanus, Rory Kinnear in Shakespeare's Hamlet, Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear in Shakespeare's Othello, Shakespeare's Macbeth with Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston and the record-breaking and award winning production of The Audience starring Helen Mirren as The Queen.
