NBC will not be moving forward with its planned Hillary Clinton miniseries, which was to star Oscar-nominee Diane Lane.

"After reviewing and prioritizing our slate of movie/mini-series development, we've decided that we will no longer continue developing the Hillary Clinton mini-series," the network announced today - just a few hours CNN also confirmed they'd scrapped their own Clinton documentary.

The biopic was to air prior to the 2016 presidential elections, and even before the script has been finalized, the project had drawn backlash from Republican critics. The series was to not include the Monica Lewinsky Scandal that rocked the second term of Hillary's husband, former President Bill Clinton. As BWW previously reported, the series would hing on Clinton's "successful 2000 Senate race, her loss to Barack Obama in the 2008 primaries, her time as secretary of state and her role in the Benghazi debacle."

On CNN's cancellation of their doc, a spokesperson said today, "Charles Ferguson has informed us that he is not moving forward with his documentary about Hillary Clinton ... [W]e won't seek other partners and are not proceeding with the film."

In a blog written for today's Huffington Post, Ferguson shared that he felt pressure from both Clinton aides and supporters and the Republican National Committee. As a result, he was having difficulties lining up interviews and sources for the highly anticipated film.

"When I approached people for interviews, I discovered that nobody, and I mean nobody, was interested in helping me make this film. Not Democrats, not Republicans," he wrote, "and certainly nobody who works with the Clintons, wants access to the Clintons, or dreams of a position in a Hillary Clinton administration."

The announcement of the proposed documentary drew anger from the RNC, which voted to ban CNN (and NBC, who is also scheduled to produce a Clinton-centered project) from hosting or sponsoring Republican primary debates.
