INNA BARMASH: YIDDISH LULLABIES & LOVE SONGS
November 27 at 7:30 PM
$20 Advance / $25 Door
Yiddish songs - twinkling lullabies and earnest songs of love and love gone wrong. Raw, beautiful and elegant in their simplicity, many of the songs are rarely heard treasures of old Soviet era anthologies of songs collected in the shtetls of Ukraine in the 1920s. Inna Barmash's first started singing in Yiddish back in her home city of Vilnius, Lithuania as a child in the late 80s. This concert celebrates the release of Inna's new recording of Yiddish love songs and lullabies and is a return to Inna's roots as a Yiddish singer after many years of performing gypsy and folk repertoire from Russia and Romania in her band Romashka and exploring contemporary folk-inspired music as part of her husband's band Ljova & the Kontraband. Joining Inna on stage are Lev 'Ljova' Zhurbin(viola/fadolin), Shoko Nagai (piano/accordion), Dmitry 'Zisl' Slepovitch (clarinet) and Dmitry Ishenko (bass).

Michael Cerveris & THE LOOSE CATTLE BAND
November 27 at 9:30 PM
$20
They were a couple at the time. And it was hard times. And because therapy was damned expensive, they thought if they spent more time singing in the living room, there'd be less time for fighting. The idea was pretty simple. Squeeze some friends together in a living room and play through some old time songs, country tunes and Cajun waltzes. Good time songs and sad ones, old ones and new ones. Not too much planning, not too much drinking (well...not everything went as planned), and they became Loose Cattle, making themselves at home on your furniture and grazing their way into your heart, so long as the cooler's got ice. Bad luck, bad jokes, bad decisions, bad jobs and through it all, the Cattle are lowing. "Call it sloppy art for sloppy hearts" -Magnet Magazine

Carl Hancock Rux
November 29 at 7:00 PM
$17
The multitalented, infinitely forward-slashed wunderkind (and the first artist to ever perform at Joe's Pub) Carl Hancock Rux returns home to celebrate the release of his fourth studio album, Homeostasis, a soul infused jazz-scape of incredibly layered, textured songs set to his gripping oral artistry-a sensual slinking of Billie Holiday meets William S. Burroughs adding Brecht and Weill to its lyricism. Described by some critics as the male heir to the throne of Nina Simone, with a style closer to John Lee Hooker and Bill Withers, Rux's rhythm-laden sounds are equally informed by jazz, blues, and gospel. Homeostasis is a paean to the ultimate need for "stillness" in an often all too jittery world. For this performance, Rux will be joined by Vernon Reid, Gerald Clayton, James Brandon Lewis, Kimberly Nichole and other special guests.

MIKE VIOLA
November 29 at 9:30 PM
$20
A prolific Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer and recording artist, Mike Viola first came into the national spotlight as founder and frontman of the Candy Butchers. After 3 albums with Sony/RPM, Mike became known for not only creating music for award-winning films ("Get Him To The Greek," "Walk Hard," "That Thing You Do!"), but also writing and producing for other artists (Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis, Matt Nathanson, New Politics, Brett Dennen, MAndy Moore, Rachael Yamagata, Tim Christensen, Gin Wigmore). Fresh off his 4th Japanese tour in 5 years and recently producing and co-penning singles for Matt Nathanson ("Mission Bells") and New Politics ("Harlem"), Mike will be in the studio this summer making Ryan Adams' new LP. Mike's latest release (summer 2012) is "Acousto De Perfecto". It is a companion to 2011′s critically acclaimed "Electro De Perfecto". "Electro" is a classic POWER POP trio album recorded fast and dirty in the studio with minimal overdubbing giving the record it's inherent nastiness sonically, lyrically, and melodically. "Acousto De Perfecto" is Electro's quiet counterpart. The Sunday morning after the dark Saturday night. Mike on acoustic guitar only, joined by Eric Summer and Kate Reddish on viola. Plans for late 2013 include a Mike Viola trading card set called GHOUL, a Superkid 7″ single from the archives, and another tour of Japan.

PIERCE TURNER
November 30 at 7:00 PM
$20
Whether as a singer or songwriter or performer, Pierce Turner has a penchant for the unexpected and the unorthodox, re-writing the rules for all three endeavors. Sometimes he performs from behind his trusty keyboard backed by a solo instrument (sax, maybe, or violin or trombone!). Or he can be out front- of-house clambering over tables and ordering drinks from the bar. In the middle of a song! His albums to are equally mercurial, showing influences ranging from his Catholic Irish upbringing to the decadence of Lou Reed's New York, merging the upfront rock of The Byrds, The Beach Boys and The Who to deft touches of Irish tradition, folk, jazz, techno, classical and choral harmonies.

OUR Lady J: THE GOSPEL OF DOLLY
November 30 at 9:30 PM
$25
Our Lady J presents the "Gospel of Dolly," an evening of Dolly Parton's most beloved gospel music. Celebrated by Ms. Parton herself and accompanied by The Train-To-Kill Gospel Choir, Our Lady J sheds new meaning and light on Dolly's greatest hits, as well as her lesser known spiritual songs in this annual celebration of the Queen of Country.Guests include Lady Rizo, Jaime Cepero, Geo Wyeth, Julie Garnye, Marty Thomas at Joe's Pub.

Their music draws on Japanese theater and folk traditions with jazz and other improvisational genres to create a sound that is ancient with a modern edge.

THE Joey Arias EXPEIRENCE
***With Special Guest John Cameron Mitchell***
December 1 at 9:30 PM
$25
Following a sold out residency at Joe's Pub in February, bona fide New York City icon Joey Arias returns to the Pub with The Joey Arias Experience. Drawing on his life-long affinity for music, Arias takes you on a journey across musical genres (jazz, pop, rock, experimental) that spans his earliest musical influences; his days at Capitol Records; his tenure as the lead singer of Strange Party (an influence on the Talking Heads); and his original songs from Jazzo~Lozzo, an album that quite literally made Arias "big in Japan" with the album's release there and subsequent tour. The Joey Arias Experience revives this rich backlog of musical history with Arias as medium and muse. Fresh from a tour of Australia and a 10-show run at Soho Theatre in London, Arias takes this moment to reflect on the roots of his career and redefine his own musical language and history.
