Raul Jimenez's game-winning bicycle kick goal against Panama made all of Mexico jump for joy, but that was just the prologue before the final chapter of the World Cup Qualifying story, which ends in Costa Rica this Tuesday, October 15 and can be seen live on Telemundo starting at 8PM/7C/5P. Telemundo will have complete coverage of this pivotal clash between two CONCACAF powerhouses as Andres Cantor will call the action from Costa Rica's National Stadium alongside Sammy Sadovnik, who will provide his analysis and commentary throughout the match. Mexico's mission is simple: Win to survive. "El Tri" currently sits in fourth place with 11 points, three more than fifth place Panama and three fewer than third place Honduras. A win in Costa Rica would allow them to obtain the last automatic spot in the World Cup if Honduras falls against Jamaica and it has a worse goal differential. Meanwhile, a draw would send them straight to a home-and-home playoff against New Zealand. A loss, on the other hand, could prove to be its demise and eliminate it from the World Cup if Panama defeats the U.S. and has a better goal differential in the process.
Costa Rica already has its bags packed for Brazil but will try to give its fans one last reason to cheer by defeating a rival that has come out of Costa Rican territory unscathed for the last 20 plus years. The last time these two squads faced each other was in March of this year, a 0-0 tie at Mexico's Estadio Azteca, while the last qualifier in Costa Rica happened in 2009 with Mexico prevailing 3-0 thanks to goals by Gio Dos Santos, Guillermo Franco and Andres Guardado,
