The US premiere of Conor McPherson's (The Weir, Dublin Carol) new play Shining City has been moved back; the drama was originally set to unveil itself at San Franciso's Curran Theatre from September 13th through October 9th (with opening night on September 20th) before starting performances at Broadway's Schoenfeld Theatre (236 W. 45th St.) on October 18th and opening on November 10th.

The postponement was attributed to "certain critical production schedules" that "could not be resolved in time to meet the current schedule."

The show, which will be produced by Barry and Fran Weissler (Sweet Charity, Wonderful Town), Scott Rudin/Paramount Pictures Corporation, Roger Berlind and Debra Black, was a hit at both London's Royal Court Theatre and Dublin's Gate Theatre. McPherson will reportedly be on hand to direct his own work, which is a taut drama with touches of the supernatural. "In Dublin, a man comes to a therapist seeking help, claiming to have seen the ghost of his recently deceased wife. What begins as just an unusual encounter becomes a desperate struggle between the living and the dead, a struggle which will shape and define both men for the rest of their lives," as the plot is described in production notes.

Stanley Townsend, who starred in the London production in 2004, will return to the role of John for its San Francisco and New York runs. Rufus Sewell (Translations, the films Dangerous Beauty and A Knight's Tale) has been cast as John's therapist Ian in the show, and Geraldine Hughes (Belfast Blues) and Keith Nobbs (The Lion in Winter, Romance at Atlantic Theater Company) will also appear in Shining City.

New performances dates for the show have not yet been announced.
