La MaMa and Watson Art will present the U.S. premiere of MDLSX - a performance work about gender-blending - with performances starting January 7, 2016 at La MaMa's new Downstairs venue at 66 E. 4 St. in Manhattan.

MDLSX will preview on January 7, with a press opening scheduled for January 8. Performances run January 17.

In MDLSX - created and performed by MOTUS company member Silvia Calderoni and directed by MOTUS founders Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolo - Ms. Calderoni is part actor, performer and DJ as she weaves autobiography and literary evocations in a fervent paean to the freedom of becoming, gender-blending, being what cannot be contained within the borders of the body, skin color, sexual organs or national identity.

Silvia Calderoni - a standout in MOTUS' most recent appearance at La MaMa in NELLA TEMPESTA (an adaptation of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST) - blurs fiction and reality in MDLSX, sampling such works as Judith Butler's GENDER TROUBLE and UNDOING GENDER to Donna Haraway's A CYBORG MANIFESTO, Paul Preciado's MANIFESTE CONTRA-SEXUAL and pieces from the QUEER universe.

MOTUS - whose other works in NYC include ALEXIS: A GREEK TRAGEDY (Under the Radar Festival at La MaMa) - does not separate art and civil engagement in its stage presentations. Founded in 1991, MOTUS works are meant to exist without borders, no limits between nations, historical moments or disciplines. They are free-thinkers who perform internationally as they and their creations for the stage confront contemporary themes, conflicts and wounds.

Silvia Calderoni has worked with MOTUS since 2006 and is the winner of numerous distinctions that include Best Actress honors - Ubu Prize, Elizabeth Turroni, Marte and Virginia Reiter Awards.

MDLSX will perform January 7-17, as follows: Jan 7-9 at 8:30 pm; Jan 11-13 at 7 pm; Jan 14-16 at 8:30 pm; Jan 10 and 17 at 4 pm. Tickets are $25 ($20 students/seniors). La MaMa makes 10 tickets for every performance available for $10 (advance sale only) as part of its 10@$10 ticketing program.
