The groundbreaking transfer of The Public Theater's production of Danai Gurira's powerful drama ECLIPSED was not only the first Broadway play boasting a playwright, director and cast of all women of color, but the subject matter, how five Liberian women deal with institutionalized rape during wartime, let audiences hear from the kind of voices that are rarely heard on a Broadway stage.

Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o received a Tony nomination for her performance, as did Gurira for the play itself. Though ECLIPSED gave the final performance of its Broadway run on Sunday, Nyong'o took a moment on Facebook to express her admiration for the playwright and her work.

Danai Gurira's ECLIPSED will be a part of Atlanta's Synchronicity Theatre's 19th season in a production running June 2 - 25, 2017. Visit SynchroTheatre.com.

Gurira will be seen on the screen as Afeni Shakur, Tupac Shakur's mother, in director Benny Boom's biopic "All Eyez On Me," set to hit theaters on November 11th.
