Magic Theatre, San Francisco's home for new plays, presents No Holds Barrio, an evening of poetry, performance and tequila slamming. Written and performed by Luis Alfaro, playwright of Magic's current production Oedipus el Rey, No Holds Barrio is a special one-night only benefit performance. All proceeds will go to support Magic Theatre's mission.

In this hour-long one-man show, poet and performer Luis Alfaro takes his coming-of-age memoir on stage as he digs deep into his two-tongued history and tries to figure out what makes a Latino best. Filled with humor and heartfelt remembrance, this raucous evening of poetic tales, true confessions, and performance rituals asks the fundamental question: Can you be a Mexican and still love Twinkies? With one foot on each side of the border, Alfaro attempts to fuse his American sensibilities with his Mexican mustache, and keep his balance on the bi-cultural high wire act.

Luis Alfaro is the author and performer of fifteen solo performance works that have been seen throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and England, including the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C., the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, and X-Teresa in Mexico City. No Holds Barrio was most recently seen at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago as part of the International Latino Theatre Festival. Luis Alfaro is also the recipient of a MacArthur genius award.
