Judith Ivey will play Amanda in Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" at New Haven's Long Wharf Theater.

The two-time Tony winner ("Steaming," "Hurlyburly") has recently been working behind the scenes as director of "Southern Comforts," "Fugue," "Secrets of a Soccermom," and the Broadway-bound musical "Vanities," which is holding its tryout in August at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Ivey, whose TV credits include a stint in "Designing Women," will play the Williams matriarch in a production directed by Gordon Edelstein, who also is directing "Some Americans Abroad" at Off Broadway's Second Stage this summer.

"The Glass Menagerie" will play May 13-June 7.
