Joe's Pub to Host 15th Anniversary Party, Featuring ROCK BOTTOM, 11/9

Joe's Pub at The Public has announced a special concert on November 9 at 9:00 PM to benefit its New York Voices commissioning series and to celebrate 15 years of presenting the best in live music and performance nightly.

The event is open to the public and will feature the encore performance of Bridget Everett's highly-anticipated new show ROCK BOTTOM, an all-night party, craft cocktails and the announcement of the next commissioned artist.

Written by Everett with Tony-winning writing duo Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys, ROCK BOTTOM is the latest work to be presented by Joe's Pub as part of New York Voices. Tickets are on sale now. http://bit.ly/19mjTEF

The concert is one of several initiatives organized by Joe's Pub to honor 15 years of presenting some of the most important contemporary artists across a range of disciplines and at every stage of their career.

Additional announcements around the anniversary include a new sound system from German speaker manufacturer d&b audiotechnik, an invitation for visual artists on Tumblr to draw live performances and an exclusive series on YouTube featuring interviews with luminaries such as Allen Toussaint, Sandra Bernhard and other artists who have made Joe's Pub their home.

"In 15 years, Joe's Pub has become a central part of New York City's cultural landscape" said Shanta Thake, Director at Joe's Pub at The Public. "We have done this through ensuring the best possible experiences for our artists, audiences and community and we look forward to highlighting and continuing this legacy through our anniversary celebrations."

"Joe's Pub has been one of the most successful ventures The Public has ever undertaken, offering support and a venue to literally thousands of artists over the last 15 years," said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. "The New York Voicesseries has also been a triumph, producing in its inaugural season an Obie Award-winning show which went into The Public's main stage season and is now touring the nation. We expect great things from the 2014 season."

New York Voices was established in 2011 as a means for musicians and artists to create new works that connect them to a larger theater audience. Artists include Bridget Everett, Lady Rizo, Angelique Kidjo, Allen Toussaint, Abigail Washburn,Noche Flamenca, Toshi Reagon and Ethan Lipton, whose commission No Place To Go went on to win an Obie Award.

"Joe's Pub has given me complete freedom to do what I want," said Bridget Everett. "I feel extremely supported here. I'm so grateful to have a place like this."

In ROCK BOTTOM, "early Bette Midler" (NY Times) Bridget Everett barrels through life tip-toeing toward disaster, wine bottle by wine bottle and man by man. Instead of succumbing to her chardonnay-induced stupor, Bridget embraces a series of revelations that lead this voice of an angel to redemption. Rock Bottom is what happens when you're too passionate to give up, and too big to fail. The performance will feature familiar songs from Everett's monthly sold-out showcase at Joe's Pub with her band The Tender Moments (Bridget Everett, Vocals; Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, Bass; Carmine Covelli, Drums; Mike Jackson, Guitar;Matt Ray, Piano) as well as new songs written with Shaiman, Wittman and Horovitz.

The price of admission includes craft cocktails by resident mixtress Tiffany Short and celebratory sweet treats.

In 2013, Joe's Pub celebrates 15 years of the best in live music and performance nightly, continuing its commitment to diversity, production values, community and artistic freedom. ABOUT The Public Theater AT ASTOR PLACE: Under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, The Public Theater is the only theater in New York that produces Shakespeare, the classics, musicals, contemporary and experimental pieces in equal measure. The Public continues the work of its visionary founder, Joe Papp, by acting as an advocate for the theater as an essential cultural force, and leading and framing dialogue on some of the most important issues of our day. Creating theater for one of the largest and most diverse audience bases in New York City for nearly 60 years, today the Company engages audiences in a variety of venues-including its landmark downtown home at Astor Place, which houses five theaters and Joe's Pub; the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, home to its beloved, free Shakespeare in the Park; and the Mobile Unit, which tours Shakespearean productions for underserved audiences throughout New York City's five boroughs. The Public's wide range of programming includes free Shakespeare in the Park, the bedrock of the Company's dedication to making theater accessible to all, new and experimental stagings at The Public at Astor Place, and a range of artist and audience development initiatives including its Public Forum series, which brings together theater artists and professionals from a variety of disciplines for discussions that shed light on social issues explored in Public productions. The Public Theater is located on property owned by the City of New York and receives annual support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; and in October 2012 the landmark building downtown at Astor Place was revitalized to physically manifest the Company's core mission of sparking new dialogues and increasing accessibility for artists and audiences, by dramatically opening up the building to the street and community, and transforming the lobby into a public piazza for artists, students, and audiences. Key elements of the revitalization included infrastructure updates to the 158-year old building, as well as construction of new exterior entry stair and glass canopy; installation of ramps for improved accessibility; an expanded and refurbished lobby; the addition of a mezzanine level with a new lounge, The Library at The Public, designed by the Rockwell Group. The LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust provides leadership support for The Public Theater's year-round activities. www.publictheater.org
