Italian Tenor Vittorio Grigolo to Perform Solo Recital on the Met Stage, 3/9

Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo, who has earned praise for his elegant and expressive vocalism in performances at the Met and other opera houses around the world, will perform a solo recital on the Met stage on Sunday, March 9 at 4 p.m. He will be joined by pianist Vincent Scalera for the recital, which will feature songs and arias by Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Tosti, Leoncavallo, Gastaldon, De Curtis, and D'Annibale. Grigolo made an acclaimed Met debut in 2010 as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, with The New York Times praising him as "handsome, energetic, exuding charisma and blessed with a vibrant voice." He returned to the company last season to sing the Duke of Mantua in the new production of Verdi's Rigoletto, and in 2015, he will add two new roles to his Met repertory: the Chevalier des Grieux in Massenet's Manon and the title character in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann. He has sung leading roles at many of the world's major opera companies, including La Scala, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, the Bavarian and Vienna State Operas, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Zurich Opera.

The recital program will include Bellini's songs "Dolente immagine di Fille mia," "Vanne, o rosa fortunata," "Malinconia, ninfa gentile," and "Per pieta, bell'idol mio"; Rossini's song "La danza," from the collection Soirées Musicales; the arias "Inosservato, penetrava...Angelo casto e bel," from Donizetti's Il Duca d'Alba and "Ah sì, ben dite...Tutto parea sorridere" from Verdi's Il Corsaro; Tosti's songs "Chanson de l'adieu," "Pour un baiser," "Ideale," "A vucchella," and "L'ultima canzone"; Gastaldon's "Musica proibita"; Leoncavallo's "Mattinata"; De Curtis's "Ti voglio tanto bene"; and D'Annibale's "O paese d' 'o sole."
