THE MISSION:

"Censored on Final Approach" is the story of four WASP (Women Air Force Service Pilots), a group of roughly one thousand women hired by the United States Air Force during WWII to fly military aircrafts and tow targets for live anti-aircraft artillery practice, thereby freeing male pilots for combat missions.
The women in Ms. Ravel's play are willing to accept any mission for their chance to serve their country, gain the respect of their male counterparts, and experience the thrill of flying. As one of the characters in the play puts it, "The difference between the men here and us? You have to be here, we want to be here." In the face of prejudice from male pilots who respond with constant sabotaging of their planes, these women go to extremes to prove their worth. "Look at us," says one. "We are no longer normal. We take any mission, no matter how dangerous, we are scared to smile, scared to act like ourselves. Scared that we will lose the chance to fly." When a fellow female pilot crashes, however, the surviving WASPs begin to question their roles and their readiness to risk everything to prove themselves in the cockpit.

"Censored on Final Approach" is a story of strength, courage, identity, and the close-knit friendships formed during a very important period in American history. These women flew a combined total of over 60 million miles in every type of military aircraft and paved the way for future generations of female pilots, both military and civilian. This play continues IVP's tradition of producing works that underscore the pivotal but often overlooked roles women have played throughout history.

THE DIVISION: INFINITE-VARIETY-PRODUCTIONS (IVP) in association with THE GYMN AT JUDSON
Infinite Variety Productions is a nonprofit theatre company dedicated to shining light on the lesser known stories from women's history. Our past productions of "A Piece My Heart" by Shirley Lauro, which tell the stories of women who served in Vietnam during the war, This production was also presented in Washington, DC for the Vietnam Women Memorial Foundation 20th Anniversary in November 2014, and in Wyoming at the VA center, high schools and colleges. "Eclipsed" by Patricia Burke Brogan, the first play writen about the Magdalene Laundries, and " These Shining" Lives by Melanie Marnich, which tells the story of the radium girls, give a voice to the many women throughout history who have been forgotten.
