On being asked to sing at the Super Bowl: "I've always had a really fond place in my heart for, specifically, the Whitney Houston national anthem. Ever since I was a little kid, I always remembered that and how beautiful it was and kind of dreamt that one day I could be at the point in my career where I'd be asked to do that."

On Idina's approach to the song: "You know, it's such a big gig, such a nerve-wracking gig. Everybody talks about it. But I enjoy singing it. I've been working on it with my voice teacher and it's really a beautiful song. It has so much meaning, and I'm looking forward to trying to connect to it, actually, and the pride I feel singing it."

On pre-game nerves: "...it's a song everyone knows. You can't get away with anything. But it is what it is. I'm a performer. I can do five to eight shows a week and do a great show or something can happen on the live stage. It's what makes it exciting and exhilarating for me. It keeps me in the moment. In life, it's so hard to stay in the moment and that's the one time in my life when I have to be truly present, when I'm performing."

John Legend is also set to perform "America The Beautiful" as part of Super Bowl XLIX pregame festivities at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on Sunday, February 1. The performances will be televised live on NBC prior to kickoff. Katy Perry will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show.

Menzel rose to prominence when she originated the role of Maureen Johnson in the hit Broadway musical Rent, a role which she reprised for the 2005 feature film adaptation of the musical. She received a Tony Award nomination in 1996 for her performance in Rent. In 2004, she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for originating the role of Elphaba in the blockbuster Broadway musicalWicked. She made her return to Broadway in the 2014 musical If/Then. She is currently a nominee for the 2014 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance.

Menzel is also known for her recurring role of Shelby Corcoran on the musical comedy-drama television series Glee, the 2007 Disney movie Enchanted and as Elsa the Snow Queen in the 2013 Disney animated film Frozen, which is the highest-grossing animated film of all time, in which she sang the Academy Award-winning song "Let It Go". The song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Solo albums include Barefoot At The Symphony (a live recording of her PBS special by the same name), I Stand, Here, and Still I Can't Be Still.
