Conundrum Stages (formerly The Ghost Light Series) continues to showcase local talent in play readings of established works from seasoned playwrights. Conundrum plans to expand its resources by building relations with other local theatre companies in order to strengthen the community within.

They are proud to announce their first official collaboration with the Palm Beach County-based Studio Theatre of Wellington.

The play reading will be of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful.

Bountiful tells the story of Carrie Watts, an elder who lives with her beleaguered son and her bossy daughter-in-law. After one arguments too many, Carrie escapes the suffocation of their Houston flat, and sets out to go back to her childhood home. On the journey, she befriends a girl travelling alone and reminisces about her younger years while grieving for lost relatives. Carrie's son and daughter-in-law, with the help of the local police force are in hot pursuit. However, when Carrie arrives at her hometown, she doesn't find what she expects. But what she does get is an inner strength that gives her a chance to close a chapter in her life.

The Trip to Bountiful started as a teleplay in 1953 starring Lillian Gish and Eileen Heckart. It premiered on Broadway the same year. Thirty-two years later, Bountiful spawned an acclaimed movie featuring Geraldine Page (Best Actress Oscar,) John Heard, and Rebecca DeMornay.

Texas native Horton Foote has had plays produced on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway and at many regional theatres. They include Getting Frankie Married—and Afterwards, Dividing the Estate, Talking Pictures, and Vernon Early. Foote won the 1995 Pulitzer for Drama for The Young Man From Atlanta.

Foote also received an Academy Award for Writing the Adapted Screenplay for To Kill a Mockingbird in 1962. His original screenplay Tender Mercies won an Academy Award for Writing of Original Screenplay, as well as the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Screenplay. Foote's screenplay for The Trip to Bountiful (1985) garnered him another Academy Award nomination.
