Greenwich Music Festival Presents THE INDIFFERENT LOVER June 9-11

The Greenwich Music Festival (Ted Huffman, Artistic Director) will present the international sensation Meow Meow ("a cabaret diva of the highest order" NY Post) June 9, 11 and 12 in Jean Cocteau's epic monologue of heartbreak, The Indifferent Lover, as part of the 2011 Greenwich Music Festival in Connecticut. With songs, and maybe some splits. The original role was custom written by Cocteau for actress Edith Piaf. Director Ted Huffman, whose work has been described by Time Out NY as, "the most visually striking and emotionally resonant productions in recent years," helms the new production with costumes by Project Runway alum Austin Scarlett.

The Indifferent Lover is based on conversations that Piaf relayed to Jean Cocteau from her strained relationship with the actor Paul Meurisse. The play follows the cabaret star home one night after a performance. She arrives to find the apartment empty and she waits anxiously for her unfaithful lover to return; when he finally does come home, she confronts his behavior and his infidelity.

The performances are part of an all-Cocteau festival that includes opera, dance and chamber music. Performance times are June 9 and 11 at 8pm and June 12 at 5pm at Arch Street (100 Arch Street Greenwich, CT located two blocks from the Greenwich, CT, Metro-North train station and just off of exit 3 on I-95).

Meow Meow (www.meowmeowrevolution.com) named top ten " Best of Cabaret " by Time Out New York, " cabaret diva of the highestorder" by the New York Post and " A phenomenon" by the Australian press, the " Post -post- modern cabaret diva" Meow Meow has wowed audiences globally with her unique brand of kamikaze cabaret and performance art exotica.

She' s won numerous Australian Green Room Awards and the New York Franklin Furnace Performance Art award. Her solo programme has been curated by David Bowie for his NY High Line Festival (alongside Laurie Anderson, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire and Ricky Gervais), and by Pina Bausch for her legendary dance-theatre festival 08 (alongside Baryshnikov, Sylvie Guillem, de Keersmaker and Paris Opera). The Sydney Opera House has presented several seasons of her works: " Beyond Glamour" and " Meow to the World: Crisis is Born" , and with Malthouse Theatre commissioned her full- length original music theatre piece VAMP! (with composer Iain Grandage). Sydney Festival and NY' s Performance Space122 have curated her piece " Insert the name of the Person You Love" - an ongoing work on the time it takes to fall in love - in collaboration with scientists and psychologists from Rutgers, Stonybrook and Oregon State Universities. Her concerts for the Carnegie Hall " Berlin in Lights" series at Neue Galerie NY have had sell-out performances, she has had extended seasons at the home of German cabaret, Bar Jeder Vernunft, Berlin.

In collaborations she has worked with John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig, Shortbus), Rodney Fisher, John Jesurun, Lance Horne, Anthony Coleman (John Zorn), Iain Grandage, toured the US with Amanda Palmer and the Dresden Dolls, and with Pink Martini' s Thomas M Lauderdale has written and recorded the album " Here Kitty Kitty...The Lost Sessions" due for release in 09. She is a regular guest in the Olivier Award winning La Clique on the West End, and with the Weimar NY collective in NYC (with such performers as Justin Bond of Kiki and Herb, Penny Arcade, Taylor Mac and Julie Atlas Muz).

Meow has also performed in venues as diverse as SF MoMA, Sydney Opera House, Joe's Pub NYC (her home in NYC), Highline Ballroom NYC, Hiro Ballroom NYC, The Neuberger Museum, American Repertory Theatre, Boston Orpheum, The Glamour Room Shanghai, the Berlin Philharmonic, Famous Spiegeltents globally, Darcelle XV, London's West End and numerous international arts festivals including Time Based Arts (US), Ann Arbor, Edinburgh, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Brisbane, Darwin, Queensland Music Festival, New Zealand, Braga Portugal and Festival Estuaire, France.

Meow has recorded for WDR, RBB (Germany), ABC (Australia), Radio France and Sonic Arts (UK), and embarks next on a return season of " Wundersch?n" , the Schoenberg Ensemble' s reworking of Schubert and Schumann with the Australian National Academy of Music ensemble, and a solo season in the US for Mikhail Baryshnikov' s Ringling International Arts Festival.

Ted Huffman (Director) Stage director Ted Huffman has garnered considerable acclaim for his work inopera, including a nomination for Best Opera Direction in Opernwelt for his 2010 production of Henze's El Cimarrón. Directing projects in 2011-12 include Hänsel und Gretel for Pittsburgh Opera, The Telephone/A Hand of Bridge/Dring, Dring for Canadian Opera Company, a double-bill (to be announced) for EnglishTouring Opera, Theodora for Opera Bergen (Norway), Carmen for Opera Birmingham, La Bohème for Amarillo Opera, La voix humaine for the Greenwich Music Festival and the Ohana Arts Festival (Hawaii), and Cocteau's Le bel indifférent, featuring cabaret star Meow Meow; Ted also joins the directing staff of the Metropolitan Opera during the 2011-12 season for the revival of Billy Budd. This summer, Ted will serve on the faculty of Songfest at Pepperdine University. Ted co-founded the Greenwich Music Festival in Connecticut and he continues to serve as the company's Artistic Director. For the festival, Ted has directed acclaimed productions of Henze's El Cimarrón, Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria. In 2008, Ted was honored with the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming from Chamber Music America. Ted attended the boarding school Choate RoseMary Hall and Yale University, where he graduated in Humanities. He is also a graduate of San Francisco's Merola Opera Program and the recipient of a Jerwood Opera Writing Residency from the Aldeburgh Festival (UK). Austin Scarlett (Costume Designer) Austin Scarlett is a designer whose work spans the realms of theatre, high fashion and television. Born in Cottage Grove, Oregon, as a teenager Austin moved to New York to pursue his education at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Scarlett's experience as costume studio assistant has earned him the pleasure of working with designers such as Julie Taymor, Tony Walton, Martin Pakledinaz, William Ivey Long, Anne Roth, and Oscar de la Renta, among others. In 2005 Austin made television and fashion history with the creation of his famous corn husk dress, on the very first episode of the Emmy and Peabody award winning Project Runway. He presented collections under his own name for New York's Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 seasons and served as creative director of international bridal and evening collection Kenneth Pool, designing over six seasons of gowns from Spring 2006 to Spring 2009. Recent works include costume design for David Parson's Dance "Remember Me", presented on PBS August 2009, "Trace" for the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet in February 2010, and the opera "El Cimarron" at the Greenwich Music Festival, June 2010.
