Fugue, by Lee Thuna and Directed by Judith Ivey Opens 3/21

Cherry Lane Theatre presents FUGUE, a comedic drama written by Lee Thuna and directed by Judith Ivey. FUGUE begins previews at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) on March 13th and the official opening night is set for March 21, 2007. FUGUE will play a limited engagement through April 21st.

A woman is found wandering in Chicago, her feet blistered and bloody. Doctors at the hospital immediately recognize this as a symptom of the "fugue" state of amnesia, where the patient is literally running away from an intolerable memory. A young psychiatrist assigned to work with her is running from his own demons as well - a mistake he made with a patient which had a devastating effect on his own life. His job is to make her remember, but if she does, will HE be repeating the mistake that he made?

FUGUE is directed by Tony® Award winner Judith Ivey. Scenic design is by Neil Patel ([title of show], Side Man, 'night mother) and lighting design is by Pat Dignan (Bhutan, Women On Fire). Costume design is by Gail Cooper Hecht (The Apple Doesn't Fall, Three Mo' Tenors) and sound design is by T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella (upcoming A Moon for the Misbegotten, A Raisin In The Sun).

The cast of FUGUE includes: Charlotte Booker, Ari Butler, Lily Corvo, Liam Craig, Deirdre O'Connell, Danielle Skraastad, Rick Stear, and Catherine Wolf.

FUGUE was the winner of the American Theatre Critics Award for Best Play in Regional Theatre.

For television, Lee wrote the adaptation of Maya Angelou's ³I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings² and wrote and produced the film ³Family Secrets.² She created the ³Goodtime Girls² (ABC), ³The Natural Look² (NBC) and wrote for ³Family,² ²Lou Grant², ³Grandpa Goes To Washington², ³Angie.². Co-author of the Baby Book (with Saint Subber) and Debby Gold, NYPD. Lee was nominated three times for the Writers Guild of America Award for best teleplay. Lee was born in the Bronx, is in the Hunter College Hall of fame and a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Writers Guild of America.

Judith Ivey (Director) Judith Ivey is the recipient of the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for her portrayals in both Steaming and Hurlyburly, the Obie Award for her performance in The Moonshot Tape, and countless others for her stage and film work. Most recently she was honored with the Sydney Kingsley-Madge Evans Award for 2004 from the Dramatists' Guild, and she has been inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. Some film credits include ³Devil's Advocate², ³Washington Square², ³Mystery², ³Alaska², ³Brighton Beach Memoirs², ³Love Hurts², ³Harry and Son², ³Compromising Positions², ³What Alice Found², and ³Flags of our Fathers². Judith starred in four television series, the most memorable being ³Designing Women². She was nominated for an Emmy for her performance in Hallmark's ³What The Deaf Man Heard². Some other TV film credits include ³The Long, Hot Summer², ³Decoration Day², ³Half a Dozen Babies², and ³Rosered². Ms. Ivey's most recent credit as a director is Southern Comforts at Primary Stages in NYC. Judith has also directed for a second time, Bad Dates at the Northlight Repertory Theatre in Chicago, having directed a production a year ago at the Laguna Playhouse. Judith directed the acclaimed Steel Magnolias at the Alley Theatre, and MORE at the off-Broadway Union Square Theatre and the Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles, and Waiting for the Flood at Act in San Francisco. Other directing credits include Two for the Seasaw at the Westport Playhouse, The Go-For-It Guy at the Aspen Comedy Festival, and Soccer Moms at Fleetwood Stage. She has also been touring the U.S. in the one-woman show, Irene O'Garden's Women on Fire during the 2006-07 season. Ms. Ivey is married to Tim Braine, and is the proud mother of Maggie and Tom. Judith has been a member of Actors' Equity for 32 years, and the SSDC for 4 years.
