The Asylum, the production team behind 2013's much-talked-about SHARKNADO, has partnered with crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to devise a brand-new scene that will appear in SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE - but only if fans fund it. This unique opportunity is an exclusive invitation for SHARKNADO fans to actually become a part of production before the tweets start pouring in.

The Indiegogo campaign will launch on April 8 and will run until May 30. The goal amount of $50,000 will be used to produce the scene, from script to special effects to final cut. Participants in the campaign will get an exclusive window on production, from behind-the-scenes footage to breaking news and advance DVD copies.

In The Pitch video, producer David Michael Latt explains, "We're going to allow you intimate access into one of the most anticipated movies of 2014." He goes on to assure viewers that The Asylum has created a scene that is sure to appeal to every die-hard Sharknado fan, and that more details will come to those who join.

"The scene we create with your participation...that'll be just yours." He promises, "It'll be a really cool feeling."

Of course, there are more tangible perks on offer as well. Participants will receive all kinds of unique SHARKNADO 2 swag, and givers at the very highest levels will even get credited in the film. The "Platinum Rewards Level" an all-expenses paid trip to the premiere party, plus an Associate Producer credit.

In light of The Asylum's frequent (simulated) human-on-shark violence, the studio has also opted to donate 10% of campaign proceeds to the RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program. The program operates out of the University of Miami and works to preserve ocean life, including and especially sharks, through a variety of education, outreach, and research initiatives.

About RJ Dunlap

Despite their menacing reputations and impressive hunting skills, sharks are among the most threatened marine animals worldwide, primarily due to destructive fishing practices. Recent estimates suggest that populations of many large sharks have declined by 90% or more in areas where they were once abundant due to overfishing. The University of Miami's Shark Program conducts innovative research and outreach activities to foster the conservation of threatened shark species. Research includes using satellite tags to track the movements of sharks to identify "hot spots" that are critical for their mating, giving birth and feeding as well as locations where these sharks are vulnerable to destructive fishing. By characterizing and identifying these hot spots, the Program can help supply policy Makers with the data they need to implement effective management strategies that will aid shark conservation.
